Maybelline Volume Express Hypercurl Mascara Review

Maybelline Volume Express Hypercurl Mascara has been in the market for quite some time now and being an ardent fan of mascaras, anything written ‘volume’ and ‘waterproof’ catches my eyes and I end up buying that. So, this is another one of those buys again but I wasn’t very sceptical because Maybelline, as a brand, hardly fails. I like my mascara to provide curl, length and volume to my natural lashes. So, coming to the product in question all I can say is that I have a love-hate relationship with this one. Read on to know more about the Maybelline Volume Express Hypercurl Mascara.

Claims about Maybelline Volume Express Hypercurl Mascara:

Maybelline Volume Express Hypercurl Mascara is great daytime waterproof mascara when you don’t want too much going on with your lashes but would want some definition as well. It comes in a cute fat bottle which is very girly. The tube is black with pink embossed details and a shiny cap. The brush is a little curved to curl the eyelashes. It has quite small bristles which cover all the lashes perfectly.

Packaging:

The packaging is in a fat chubby wrapping with sleek black and rose gold one. I loved how they have coordinated the color and it looks quite pleasing rather than boring. The waterproof/washable variant is written on the bottom and it comes with an attached with hand the cap. Overall, the Maybelline Hypercurl mascara has every feature as regular Maybelline mascara and is quite lightweight and travel friendly as well.

Shade:

The shade is deep black and it nicely quotes the lashes well. It gives a certain definition to the lashes as well as an illusion tight lining to the upper lash line when you apply it thickly. I like how the lashes look naturally black yet pretty.

Texture:

The texture of the Maybelline Hypercurl mascara is of a thick whipped cream. I have used several volume boost mascaras before but I found its texture slightly dry. Hence, you have to work super-fast when it comes to coating several times. It you wait too long, two coats will feel clumpy and uneven. Having said that, it dries up pretty fast on the eyes and it doesn’t crumble too much.

Formula:

It comes in both waterproof and washable variants. Although I always go for the waterproof one, it is very difficult to remove and I use baby oil for this purpose. For summers, I have the habit of splashing water on the face very often and this product never seeped down the eyes giving the raccoon look. However, washable one is easier to remove.

Effects:

The mascara does curls, add length and volume to the lashes but it makes my lashes spidery. And this is why I have a love-hate relationship with one. Often I skip the eyelashes curler when I am in a hurry and this wand beautifully curls up the lashes and keep it intact for several hours. If you use a curler, the curls stay intact for the whole day. It adds a slight length which looks good but coating inner lashes is difficult and hence, looks uneven. Coming to the volume part, it only adds a little volume for a nominal daytime office kind of look but not the ‘over-the-top’ falsies volume. It is the best product for eye makeup which is waterproof and effective.

Pros of Maybelline Volume Express Hypercurl Mascara:

1. It is a daily office or college wear mascara because the volume it gives is perfectly suited for day time.

2. It's quite long lasting as it stays on my lashes for the whole day.

3. It does not feel heavy on my lashes. I never feel like I'm wearing something on my eyes.

4. The curl stays up to 6-7 hours easily.

5. Easy to remove. Use a makeup remover or baby oil.

6. Apart from giving the curly effect, it lengthens my eyelashes too.

Cons of Maybelline Volume Express Hypercurl Mascara:

1. It clumps when you go for multiple coats.

2. Application on lower lashes and the inner corners is a little difficult and tends to become messy since the brush is quite fat.

3. It gives a spidery look to my lashes.

Conclusion:

Being a big fan of Maybelline brand, I didn’t like this product a lot. I think the consistency of this Maybelline mascara could have been better at this price. But you get a good stay with this Maybelline mascara all day long, that's quite a good deal. It does its job in curling the lashes and giving a thicker look. Overall, it’s good for the price and features it serves.
