Vegetarianism or Veganism has surely entered our lives in some or another way. We often see different recipes or dishes which require some fancy ingredients which are not even locally available. There are days when you wonder how can I possibly whip up a quick snack without having to run down to the store? Well, we have good news for all those vegans/vegetarians out there! With just a few ingredients sitting in your kitchen you can make a homemade eggless version of French toast! The hero of this dish is semolina. Sounds fancy, doesn’t it? Well, semolina is nothing but the good old rava. This soft, crispy eggless suji toast is surely a quick snack for breakfast or an easy evening snack.
Earlier I used to think rava can only be used to make a sweet or for rava idli. Never did I know that this crispy snack can be made by using semolina. If you have leftover bread in your fridge, you can make this homemade quick snack. This suji toast is not only quick to make but is also a healthy snack. Rava toast uses just a few items and very little time. You can also add vegetables of your choice to this recipe of suji toast.
Sooji Toast is a quick and perfect item to have for breakfast or in the evening with a nice cup of tea. It takes less than 10 minutes to prepare. It’s also known as Rava Toast, well both Sooji and Rava are the same. Semolina, Sooji, Rava, and Cream of wheat are the same, so don’t get confused. For Sooji Toast you’ll need:
4 slices of bread (your choice of bread)
4 tbsp Sooji
½ cup of water (or ½ cup of milk)
1 finely chopped capsicum
1 finely chopped tomato
1 finely chopped onion
2-3 tbsp of chopped coriander leaves
Vegetable oil
Salt (according to taste)
Red chili powder (according to taste)
½ tsp Garam masala
½ tsp Jeera
4 tbsp Sooji
½ cup of water (or ½ cup of milk)
1 finely chopped capsicum
1 finely chopped tomato
1 finely chopped onion
2-3 tbsp of chopped coriander leaves
Vegetable oil
Salt (according to taste)
Red chili powder (according to taste)
½ tsp Garam masala
½ tsp Jeera
How to:
1. Take a mixing bowl and add 4 tbsp of Sooji.
2. Now carefully add 4 tbsp of water or milk to the Sooji. It’s totally up to you whether you want to take water or milk. The quantity of water should be double that of Sooji.
3. Make sure the mixture is not runny and not so thick. I’ll advise you to add a little amount of water then add later if required.
4. Add Salt, Red chili powder, Jeera, Garam masala, chopped capsicum, onion, tomato, and coriander leaves to the same bowl and mix everything well. Keep the mixture aside and let it sit for 5 minutes.
5. Now take a non-stick pan and add a few drops of vegetable oil and keep the flame on low.
6. Take a slice of bread and spread the mixture evenly with the help of a spoon. Place the filled slice down on the heating pan and cook till the bread looks golden brown.
7. Flip the bread and repeat the same process on the other side also. You can totally skip this step if you don’t want it on both sides.
8. Serve the Sooji toast with green chutney (Pudina chutney) or ketchup.
Tips:
1. Serve the Sooji toast hot as it becomes soggy when cools down.
2. Don’t add too much oil; it’s not healthy for anyone.
3. Always add the mixture on the slices and after it’s done then repeat the same on the next batch. Don’t leave the mixture on the slices and wait for the first batch to cook.
Conclusion:
So, that’s how you make this delicious Sooji toast. It’s easy to make and a different recipe to break your old daily breakfast routine. For any queries or questions, please feel free to comment below.
